Ornaments

Gold, black and marble.

Decorative ornaments with a sculptural edge, including golden pillar bookends, an antique gold textured sculpture, a matt black ceramic head and a faux marble dice box.

Ornaments give a styled shelf its focal point. This small, curated collection of home ornaments is built around metallic gold, matt black and marble effect finishes, so each piece works within a glam or monochrome interior.

The golden pillar bookends, modelled on classic columns, measure H19 x W6 x D10cm and bring order and structure to a bookshelf. The small gold textured sculpture is an abstract form in warm antique gold with a raised textured pattern and a curved cutaway to the centre. For something more characterful, the black ceramic head piece in a matt black glaze can be styled as a sculpture or used as a vase. The gold and black marble ornament adds a gem stone inspired accent.

Practical pieces sit alongside the purely decorative. The grey faux marble dice box has inset silver metal detailing and holds five small black dice, ideal for a coffee table. The large silver textured bowl, made from textured nickel and aluminium with a reflective finish, works as a dining table centrepiece or a home for keys. Pair ornaments with vases and candle holders to build a full display.

A guide to our ornaments

Where to place ornaments

Bookends belong on open shelving, where they frame a row of books and stop them leaning. Sculptures and the ceramic head piece work well at eye level on a console table or mantelpiece, where their shape can be seen from across the room.

Lower, wider pieces such as the silver textured bowl and the dice box suit coffee tables and dining tables, where they are viewed from above. Placing a sculptural ornament on a stack of books or a marble tray lifts it and gives it more presence. Leave a little breathing room around each piece so the shapes stay clear.

Mixing gold, silver and black

Gold ornaments, like the pillar bookends and textured sculpture, bring warmth and pair well with cream and white ceramics. Silver pieces, such as the textured bowl and the dice box detailing, feel cooler and suit grey schemes.

Matt black, seen on the ceramic head piece, is the bridge between the two. If you want to mix metals, choose one as the main tone and use the other sparingly, then repeat black across the display to tie everything together. White ceramics or clear glass soften the look if it starts to feel heavy.
